Buy new cars to upgrade and balance until you have the ultimate ride then take it online to punish your opponents wherever they might be, or play an intense round of Survival, Time Attack or any other of the 5 single player game modes.

Quick Race, Arcade, Championship and Time Attack modes are the four main mode choices, but there is also a multiplayer mode. But here's a huge caveat about multiplayer that completely mutes it as a selling point: I couldn't find anyone to race in the Lobby because, according to the Help file, it only works with other people using the same wireless router. So, good luck with finding somebody with your router online at the exact same time as you. I never could. And I tried. Repeatedly.

You only
race against three other AI opponents. You steer using touch controls or the accelerometer, which I recommend. Auto-accelerate is an option for casual gamers and I suggest you use it. Your boost gauge is on the left side of the screen. Fill this meter by running over blue lightning bolts scattered around the track. Hitting a gold skull, though, depletes your boost meter. If you don't have any boost banked, running over a skull slows your car for about three seconds. It's a really cheap game mechanic that I thought was a terrible addition. The skulls only affect you, not the other drivers. So, if you're in first place and run over one with no boost available, you can forget about winning the race because the AI never makes mistakes like that and suffers the consequences.

On the right is your tackling bar. This feature is supposed to make the race more exciting, but it fails. If you're following closely behind an opponent, wait for the tackling meter to fill up. Once it does, hit it to boost your car forward and cause the car in front of you to spin out of control so you can pass it. Problem is, the AI cars recover instantly and never seem to lose any speed, catching right back up to you. It feels like a feature without a lot of thought put into it.

Quick race just puts you in the default car and you're off to race. Why can't I choose between tracks and cars so I can practice? Arcade mode lets you pick between one of four cars and race each track in succession. There's no upgrading your vehicle in this mode, so its just loop-de-loop racing that's easier to win than the main championship mode.
