How to Jailbreak iOS 5 On iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, iPod touch

These are instructions on how to jailbreak your iPhone 4 on the 5.0b1 firmware using RedSn0w for Mac. Since iOS 5.0 has not yet been released these are instructions for developers only. This procedure will cause you to upgrade your baseband potentially ruining your chances for an unlock, it will not hacktivate so you must have your UDID registered with a developer, and it is tethered.


Step One
Create a folder on your desktop called Pwnage

Download RedSn0w and place it in the Pwnage folder. Likewise, download the latest 5.0b1 firmware from the iOS developer center and place it in the same folder.

5.0b1: iPhone3,1_5.0_9A5220p_Restore.ipsw

Extract the RedSn0w zip file by double clicking it.


Step Two
Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.


Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left. Now hold down Option and click the Restore button. Restore is preferred as it won't create any wasted space on your iPhone.


Navigate to the Pwnage folder on your desktop and select the 5.0b1 firmware ipsw. Click the Choose button to continue.


Step Three
Once iTunes has finished updating your iPhone to the desired firmware open the Pwnage folder on your desktop and launch the redsn0w application from the redsn0w folder we extracted earlier.


Step Four
Once RedSn0w opens click the Browse button


Step Five
Select the 5.0b1 firmware ipsw we placed in the Pwnage folder on our desktop then click Open.


Step Six
Once the firmware has been verified click the Next button to continue.


Step Seven
RedSn0w will now prepare the jailbreak data


Step Eight
From this window you can select the jailbreak options you would like.

Make sure Cydia is selected and click the Next button to continue


Step Nine
Please plug your iPhone into the computer and make sure its OFF then click the Next button


Step Ten
RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU mode. You can find more help with DFU mode here


Hold down both the Home button and the Power button for 10 seconds.


Release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until RedSn0w detects the device.


Step Eleven
Your iPhone will now reboot


Step Twelve
RedSn0w will then begin uploading the new RAM Disk and Kernel.


Step Thirteen
Once this is complete you will be notified that RedSn0w is done. Click the Finish button. When your iPhone finishes rebooting (5 minutes or so) it will be jailbroken with Cydia on the SpringBoard.

How to Install Apps/Games in Jailbroken iDevices

All of the concerns regarding on how to install apps and games

I prepared some basic tutorial, if you have some corrections or additional info, post here and I'll incorporate it to the first post with credits to you...

Here's the instruction:
Basic Requirements:
1. A jailbroken iPhone/iPod/iPad
Go Here:
Greenp0ison
Limera1n
2. Cydia
3. Add source cydia.hackulo.us and install appsync (Depends on your iOS version, you need to install the correct appsync version)
4. Internet connection (Faster is better!)


Method 1 (Using Installous, stand alone):
1. Open Cydia, add this source: cydia.hackulo.us
2. Still in Cydia, install Installous
3. Quit Cydia
4. Reboot iPhone
5. Open Installous ( Go to Settings tab and turn 'automatic install' and 'sync to itunes' to ON.)
Well, this is what I do
6. Select any apps/games you want.
7. Download it
8. Now it should be ok..


Method 2 (Using Installous together with PC/Mac, using CyberDuck/WinSCP):
1. Open Cydia
2. Add this source: cydia.hackulo.us
3. Still in Cydia, install “Installous”
4. Still in Cydia, install “OpenSSH”
5. Quit Cydia
6. Reboot iPhone
7. Download WinSCP for windows or CyberDuck for Macs.
8. Connect iPhone to PC/Mac (Using WiFi)
9. Connect to the iPhone using SSH connection (WinSCP ,CyberDuck , etc) “Username: root Password: alpine”
10. Navigate to “/Private/var/mobile/Documents/Installous/Downloads “
11. Copy “.ipa” files to this folder
12. Now, disconnect from PC/Mac.
13. Open Installous and go to Download tab. At this time you see a list of applications that previously copied to the “Downloads” folder
14. Click on the application name then click install.

Method 3 (Using Installous together with PC, using iFunbox):
1. Open Cydia
2. Add this source: cydia.hackulo.us
3. Still in Cydia, install “Installous”
4. Still in Cydia, install “afc2dd”
5. Download iFunbox from HERE
6. Open iFunbox and navigate to “/Private/var/mobile/Documents/Installous/Downloads “
7. Copy “.ipa” files to this folder
8. Now, disconnect from PC.
9. Open Installous and go to Download tab. At this time you see a list of applications that previously copied to the “Downloads” folder
10. Click on the application name then click install.

Method 4 (Using iTunes)
1. Download any ipa you want.

2. Just be sure that the extension is ipa, not zip or rar, if not, rename it.
3. Connect your iDevice, open iTunes and Double-click the ipa that you just downloaded.

Here's how to transfer your cracked apps to itunes, and be able to sync through itunes:

Here are some steps so you can get it right: 1.) iTunes>Edit>Preferences> Devices Tab> Uncheck 'Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing Automatically'. 2.) Connect your iPhone> On the main iTunes Screen > Right click iPhone on the Devices Pane> Reset Warnings. 3.) Right click on your iPhone> Transfer Purchases. This should be it : ). Hope it works for you !

Ok, at first I had an error saying ' Cannot transfer this ..... because this computer is not authorized' I'm using my new laptop so this is what I did: 1. On itunes, I signed in to my itunes account (Store->Sign in) 2. Authorized my laptop. (You have until 5 units to authorize) (Store->Authorize this computer) 3. After Authorizing you can start the purchase transfer and then you can tick on the 'sync apps' options on itunes.

IPhone : How to install theme(guide)

SSHing winterboard theme into proper directory using Cyberduck

1.First Download an SSH Client such as Cyberduck for OSX or iPhoneTunnel if your on Windows


2. Then locate your phones IP Address. Make sure your phone is on the same network as your computer you are SSHing from.



3. Open Cyberduck
4. Click Open Connection on Cyberduck

5. Click the drop down menu and select SFTP(SSH File Transfer Protocol) Make sure the port is 22

6. Use the IP Address we located on your iPhone and input it where it says Server.
7. The user name is “root” and the password is “alpine”. Both are without caps. Then hit Connect.
8. A screen will pop up asking “Do you want to allow the host access?” Select Allow for one time use or Always to connect everytime

9. Then you will need to hit the up button to go into the previous directory: private/var/

10. Then you will need to open up Stash : private/var/stash/

11. Next open up Themes.*******: private/var/stash/Themes.********

Just drag and drop your theme into this folder

Next open up Winterboard and enable the theme…..

Detailed instructions:

Step 1: Download Limera1n
Step 2: Connect your iPhone via USB to your computer and click on “make it ra1n” .

C. Release the “Power” button.


D. Now wait for the device to enter DFU mode.

Step 5: Jailbreak is done!


Step 6: Now start Limera1n app from your iPhone, and install Cydia.

Jailbreak iOs 4.1 ipt2 now supported!!!(Windows/Mac/Linux)

Chronic Dev Team has finally released GreenPois0n to the world. You can use it to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4G / 3G and iPad. Support for iPod touch 2G and Apple TV will be added soon.

greenpois0n only works on firmware 4.1, so (only if you have an iPhone 4!) if you are on a lower firmware make sure you use TinyUmbrella to preserve your baseband.


Initially, this will be a Windows-only release. This is due to some technical complications that we soon hope to correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks to geohot for the bootrom USB exploit. We have opted to use that instead of SHAtter for the sake of exploit presevation.

This release of greenpois0n supports:

The following instructions will help you jailbreak iOS 4.1:

NOTE: If you rely on an unlock, do not update to iOS 4.1 yet as doing so will upgrade your baseband, making it impossible for now to unlock. Either use TinyUmbrella to update to iOS 4.1 without update baseband, or wait for PwnageTool which will help you cook custom firmware files for iOS 4.1 without the upgraded baseband.

Step 1: Download GreenPois0n from HERE.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone via USB to your computer and click on “Prepare to Jailbreak (DFU)”



Step 3: Now follow the following onscreen instructions:

A. Press and hold the sleep button for 2 seconds

B.*Continue holding sleep; press and hold home for 10 seconds.

C.*Release sleep button; continue holding home for 15 seconds.

Step 4: Your device is now ready for jailbreak. Click on “Jailbreak” to inject the exploit.



Step 5: Your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch should now be successfully jailbroken on iOS 4.1 !

Step 6: Now start “Loader” found on the homescreen and install Cydia.

There is currently no way to unlock your iPhone on the latest 05.14.02 / 2.10.04 basebands. If you have managed to preserve your baseband while upgrading to iOS 4.1 using TinyUmbrella, you can use the existing version of Ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone on iOS 4.1.


Now, there are currently two jailbreak available but using the same exploit..

The two methods are confirmed by me to be working on my iphone 3Gs new bootrom..

IF No Cydia Icon After Jailbreaking with greenpois0n?

The greenpois0n jailbreak has proved to be somewhat buggy for some users, including us. Fortunately, we’ve been able to navigate around a few of those bugs with a little bit of tinkering.

One of the biggest reported problems is the lack of a Cydia icon on your springboard following a successful jailbreak. Look inside for a step-by-step guide on how to add Cydia back to your springboard!

Step 1: Jailbreak using greenpois0n.

Step 2: Download either iFunBox or iPhoneBrowser, and plug in your iPhone. This will allow you to navigate your phone’s directory structure if the jailbreak was indeed successful.

Step 3: Navigate to /var/mobile/Library/Caches directory, delete ‘com.apple.mobile.installation.plist’ and reboot.

Step 4: When you reboot you should see a Loader icon on your springboard. Access Loader to download Cydia, and reboot.

Step 5: Once you reboot you should see both Cydia and Loader icons! You can uninstall Loader if you want
